My Writing Process Blog Tour
I was invited to participate in the My Writing Process Blog Tour by Gwen Steel (bio appears below). I thought it would be a great way to connect with fellow writers and also to let my readers learn a little about me. So here I go…welcome to the world of my writing process! At the end, I’ve nominated (well, really I tied them down and made them! LOL-J/K).
1 – What am I working on?
I am currently working on the third book of the Devoured Club Series, Dominate Me. I have also outlined the plot for the second Double Cross novel, Crossover and also a stand alone novel about a married woman’s journey into BDSM. So…trying to fit that all in to my insanely busy schedule is not fun, but I do write when I can.
2 – How does my work differ from others of its genre?
I hope that my readers can see that my novels, especially the BDSM series, focus on the emotions behind the BDSM. The novels, although steamy and filled with great sex, do focus or try to focus on the why’s of the choices that the characters make. I try to explain the lifestyle, the reasons why my characters are a part of the BDSM scene and how it is not a negative but a positive in their lives. It is the reason that characters at time will seem uncertain, or will change their minds in a seemingly quick time frame- although the book is a work of fiction- in that story they are still human, just like us- are we ever concrete on a decision we make? I don’t know about you, but I find myself changing my mind or making a promise to myself to be better, stronger, different, etc..you add in the adjective or word. If my characters are not real, not human, then what story am I giving my readers?
3 – Why do I write what I do?
I write what comes to me. Honestly, the Devoured Club Series started out as a way to show readers and inform readers about the lifestyle, why people are drawn to it, the emotional connections behind it, especially between Dominant and submissive. The Double Cross series is not BDSM related, but is steamy, very steamy. Again, I had an idea of a rock band that isn’t what they seem to be or portray to the fans/media. Inside each of them is secrets, hopes and ambitions that they want to achieve. The third series I have planned focuses on a hockey team and a group of teammates that enjoy ruling their world on and off the ice! Why? I love hockey, I enjoy BDSM and I wanted to combine them! First one is scheduled for a 2015 release, hopefully sooner though.
4 – How does my writing process work?
How does my process work…? Interesting question! My process is sporadic at best. Lately, writing has taken a back seat to nursing school. But I try and fit it in when I can. However, I usually get an idea and jot down the basic plot line in and the characters…I keep doing this as I think of new scenes, or events that I want to happen. Before I sit to write, I do a fully characterization of each main character- look, age, goals, dreams, fears, body piercings, tattoos, background, etc. I use that to get to know them and then I write. I let the characters tell the story. I make sure the parts that I want in the novel are there, but the characters write the story. They are in my head trying to get out, and I let them. I love alternating between first person, giving my readers the ability to see the story from both point of views- some don’t like that, but I think it allows for the reader to connect to each character more intimately.
Now that you have heard about mine…check out the following authors next week and check out Gwen’s bio and post as well.
Ashen White: Ashen White was born in the north-east of England, but, after a few meanderings with her parents, immigrated to Canada in the mid-1990’s. In her childhood, Ashen was indoctrinated by her Romany family in the ancient traditions of the Tatcho Drom, or True Way, and is a keen student and practitioner of the Dukkerin’ craft, mainly using Tarot cards as her medium. Ashen enjoys writing scorchingly detailed erotica, with a strong paranormal or BDSM flare. She currently lives with her two long-term partners, and their two male cats, on the outskirts of the Greater Toronto Area (Ye Canadian Smoke!).
Carrie Anne Ward: I grew up in the seaside resort Clacton on sea in Essex, England, with my mum and two brothers until I was 16 years old. I then moved with my mother to Colchester (where I still lives to this day) and went on to study Art and Design at the Colchester institute. However, after recovering from the illness glandular fever, which meant I couldn’t finish my degree, I went out into the world to become a working class citizen and a glamour model on the side.
Suzy Ayers: Suzy Ayers is a Bestselling Author of both “Sara’s Awakening” and “Miranda’s Amulet” in Fantasy (Metaphysical/Visionary). She has multiple Erotica titles that have also been in the Amazon Bestseller lists within the free categories. Her main focus is Romance, which crosses many genres including: Erotica, Fantasy and coming soon Paranormal. Her short stories and books twist into happily-for-now or happily-ever-after’s.Suzy attempts to write in a manner that pulls you into the erotic event and paints an explicit scene of lust and passion. Her purpose of expressing it in this manner is that she believes that sex and love are intertwined and are healthy expressions of the human heart.
And from the nomination of Gwen Steel:
I started as an avid reader early in life. It wasn’t until much later when I travelled to Scotland and had an overwhelming sense of welcome and homecoming that I just had to write it down. Well, after several hours of REALLY bad poetry, I wrote a poem about the Battle of Culloden. Later, I broke it up into two separate pieces which will be making an appearance in my “Well of Souls” Series. They remained in my journal for several years. Then one day, I had a wild idea…maybe I could write a Romance? That was in 2009. Since then I have learned so much as an Indie Author, and am still learning every day. I still read voraciously, I have to see what the competition is doing, right? I am a huge proponent of Publishing in whatever means works for you, and I have a website dedicated to helping out the new author, www.IndieAuthorNetwork.com
I have a variety of interests in writing styles and currently write for three very different genres. I am also gearing up to creating my own publishing business, to help manage those many alter egos. Until then, you can find me online on my website : www.gdsteelromance.weebly.com
