I had Ms. Lawrence on the Author Showcase about a week or so ago, maybe two promoting her new book Wicked Games. Here is my review I owe her!
Wicked Games by Kelly Lawrence
Rating: 4.5 Stars out of 5
Book Description: A red-hot account of how an everyday woman is seduced into a thrilling sub/dom relationship. This is true-life erotic romance at its best.
“Looking back, I think I knew I was in trouble the first time I met him. The road he took me down was at once both more liberating than I could have dreamed of, and yet more intense than I could cope with. If the path of love doesn’t always run smooth… then how much more crooked it becomes when mixed with raw desire.”
This is no novel, but the memoir of an intense, exciting and at times unsettling relationship. Alex, for all his charms, is no billionaire playboy, and Kelly is no blushing virgin; rather your typical, overworked teacher who has no time for games, certainly not the wicked games he leads her into. Games that she ends up craving like a drug.
My Review: It is common knowledge that I enjoy a wonderful erotic novel, especially the ones relating to BDSM and the relationship between a Dominant and his/her submissive. This novel is more of a memoir of the journey a woman takes into the BDSM world and the relationship that ensues. The novel had me hooked from the beginning and I was intrigued to find out how she handles the information she was presented about Alex. The journey follows her over a year and includes prying co-workers, family and friends and even a ruthless ex-wife. Kelly’s determination to overcome her preconceived notions of what is acceptable in today’s world (relating to sex, and you will see what I mean), allows her to truly submit to not only Alex but to her desires; desires she didn’t realize she wanted.
I think this is a wonderful novel taking a look into not a fictionalized account of the BDSM world (although they are great as well), but one that is true and very real. We need more novels like these available not only to readers, but those interested in the lifestyle. The memoir gives a refreshing take on the emotional aspects associated with these types of relationships; the trust and willingness that is freely given to one another. The mentality of the submissive and one just entering the lifestyle is true to form. It is refreshing to see raw emotions of the characters; to see what actually goes through our minds as we embark on this lifestyle.
If you are looking to read a story about dominance, submission, the lifestyle and ordinary people…Put this one on your TBR list. Well done Ms. Lawrence.
