We have Wunder author, A.R. Von on the Blog today…Check her out!
1) Tell us about yourself.
My name is Ava, also known as A.R. Von. I’m a mother of two entertaining teen boys (as well as a fun and lovely fawn Chihuahua, whom I consider my furry daughter.) I’m also a wife to a delightfully handsome and amazingly funny man-beast. I’m an avid reader of many genres which include (but are not limited to) erotica, paranormal, ménage, fantasy, YA, historical and some western (I have to have a hot cowboy, or two, here and there). I also love to exercise, listen to music, hike, cook, dance and write. I write to free my mind of its constant wondering and brain clogging dreams. I love the fact I can share it with readers that have the same passion for a great story.
2) What do you do when you are not writing? Day job?
When I’m not writing I love to exercise, hike, dance, listen to music, read, cook, sing (horribly), write reviews (I know it’s still writing, but it relaxes me), paint some crafty things, and dream. When I’m not doing that, I’m spending time with my family, learning about the newest video games my boys are playing and “learning the ropes” of Magic (the card game). I also spend time writing reviews for Romance Book Junkies, BTS emag, Satin Sheets Romance and my own blog J
3) How did you choose the genre you write in?
I didn’t actually choose it. It just flowed out with the idea presented in the request for submissions and I’m so glad it did J
That being said, I’d say I mix it up genres a bit. Variety is the spice of life after all!
4) When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved writing from when I was young; even just jotting down non sense that popped into my head or thoughts of my day (or a boy crush) in my journal(s). I wrote poems for my mother every chance I had. I don’t recall if they were all that great. I DO remember most of them based on the rhythm of “Roses are red…” lol
5) Biggest influences as a reader/writer?
All of my favorite authors.
6) Is anything in your writing based on real life experiences or purely all imagination? Where do your ideas come from?
Great question! A few are based on real life, for example (the sex, shhh) lol- others are just going with the flow of whatever comes to mind. It works out pretty well for me and it’s so much fun to see what “pops” into my mind and ends up on the pages J
7) Planner or Panster?
I’m a thinker, planner. I would not say I outline per say. But I design my characters right after thinking of the story line. I make notations (on various pieces of paper most times) and from there it all just grows and develops.
8) What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?
So far the only criticism I’ve received has been from reviews. The toughest one was when the reviewer stated “It seems like the author took 2 chapters out of a novel and stuck them together” and “the male character name is not hot”. Honestly, I took the name criticism pretty hard. It’s my husband’s name and I wanted to use it as my own way of a dedication to him and I feel my Pete is VERY sexy! All in all, the reviewer enjoyed Wunder. But I had to giggle at that. I WISH I had a novel written right now! I was not sure if I should have been offended or not. It did feel odd, but not everything is for everyone…
The best is many readers state they have enjoyed and compliment the direction Wunder goes. The introduction, the way it leaves you wanting more and their love for the characters. It’s not something you would read every day. I’m very proud of it.
9) Tell us about your book (s). Favorite thing? Hardest issue to overcome?
I don’t have much out there but the first in the Wunder series. I am also currently going through edits with a short I wrote for a WOCA (Writing Out Child Abuse) anthology. That should be out some time this year. It’s also something different. I wrote it specifically to contribute and help raise money for such a great cause.
I’m also writing out the next two of the Wunder series. A prequel (to give us all more on Pete and Wunder) and book 2 so we can see what happens from where it left off (sorry cannot say. I do not want to ruin for those of you that have not yet read it).
My favorite thing is being able to release my imagination onto pages and share it with readers. My hardest is two things actually. One is my tenses (yes, I admit to absolutely stinking in tenses) and the other is when I do not write down my ideas and lose them! That makes me so Grrr.
10) Advice for aspiring writers?
Advice that was given to me and well taken is to ALWAYS listen to your characters. They’ll never steer you wrong. Oh and NEVER give up!
11) Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
I would like to thank everyone for showing so much love and support to this here newbie. I am truly grateful for each and every one of you. You all sure know how to make a person feel great and I’ll NEVER forget those who stood by me and gave me that push into the deep end that I needed! Love ya beautiful people ❤
