Author Showcase- Allison Cosgrove

It’s Author Showcase Friday!!!! Let’s welcome author Allison Cosgrove to the blog today. Let’s learn a little more about the

1) Tell us about yourself.

Allison Cosgrove was born and raised in a suburb of Toronto, Ontario. A married mother of three daughters, she works in retail by day and creates her own worlds by night. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters hiking in the woods or sitting by the fire reading a good book. She has had the love of reading and writing detective mysteries from the age of twelve, but it has only been since the birth of her youngest that she has gotten serious about crafting some of her own works for others to enjoy. She credits her family and friends with being the driving force that has given her the strength to breathe life into her books.allison-head-shot-new

2) What do you do when you are not writing? Day job?

I own two retail stores that keep me busy for the most part, and when I’m not building those businesses, I’m spending time with my four favorite people.

3) How did you choose the genre you write in?

I have always been a huge fan of mysteries. I read mountains of them growing up.

4)When did you start writing?

I was 12 when I remember writing my first “novel”.

5) Biggest influences as a reader/writer?

Time, I have very little of it so if I am going to invest time as a reader it better really catch my attention J As a writer I aspire to be the writer I want to read. Someone who reaches out and grabs a hold of her readers and hangs onto them until the book is done.

6) Is anything in your writing based on real life experiences or purely all imagination? Where do your ideas come from?

I do a lot of research into the criminal mind. There are bits and pieces of various real criminals in my baddies, but they have my own brand of crazy added to them.

7) Planner or Panster?

Pantser,  all the way. As I get to the end when I stop and try to tie up all my loose ends.

8) What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?

I was once told to go back to school from an agent because my grammar etc was so horrendous. I hired an amazing editor and have been learning from her.

I have heard from many people the same thing. “I couldn’t put the book down” That to me say I’ve done my job. I did what I set out to accomplish.

9) Tell us about your book (s). Favorite thing?Hardest issue to overcome?

Stan is a homicide detective with a past. Jane is a woman detective in a long line of male detectives and has a point to prove. This duo sets out to quite literally prove the city’s finest wrong about their abilities. They are challenged by some of the crazies bad guys I could create (I swear I gave myself nightmares more than once writing these books.) and yet they never fail to bring their best to the table.

10) Advice for aspiring writers?

Write for you. Write for your soul. Learn every day. Help and be helped. But most of all enjoy the ride. It is certainly the wildest one sometimes so enjoy it.

11) Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Firstly, Enjoy. And secondly reach out to me. I would to hear more folks! (love making new friends I do)
